If Enough of Us Write About It, More People Should Get the Message
A lot of us have been writing about the importance of hunting and the good that hunters can do, both for conservation and for the economy. The latest in that series is on the the Addicted to Hunting Blog.
All Fish, All the Time
Othmar tells us about a great book for beginning flyfishers. The Flyfishing Fool shows us some fish porn, specifically trout. They sure do look yummy. Once you?ve caught your trout, the Ultimate Fishing Blog has a great recipe for smoked trout. It isn?t on my current diet, but it sure sounds good. Finally, Jody shares a story about a a very long fishing pole. Apparently I?m 12, because the post made me laugh.
A Good Dog Story
My family has owned Labs since I was a kid, and I?m a sucker for a good dog. The Desert rat has a great post about dogs he has known. I especially love the picture of Trooper laying on the dog training book. Very funny!
The Right Way to Rescue Pets
As always, Holly makes sense of an issue that confuses a lot of people. She shows us that the best way to help local pet operations is with direct involvement. Writing a check or volunteering your time will help ensure that the local organizations get the benefit. As many of us already know, donating to the HSUS won?t do your local pet shelter any good at all.
Compensation for Search and Rescue Personnel?
The Adventurist raises an interesting question on his blog. He asks should search and rescue personnel be compensated when they have to go rescue someone who has gotten into trouble. There are good arguments on both sides of this issue. Go over and tell him what you think.
What Would You Do?
Wade at The Great Outsmores had a fishing rod snap on him this past weekend. He?s written a post asking what he should do. Should he slam the manufacturer on his blog? Should he write a letter to the manufacturer and give them a chance to make things right? Should he do nothing at all? If you have an opinion, go over and let him know what you think.
Abolish Hunting, Just Charge Fees for Birdwatching
Kim Hiss, who writes the FS Huntress blog, points out a letter to the editor written by Joe Miele, who is the president of the Committee to Abolish Sport Hunting. Apparently, his theory is that the revenues generated by hunters can be replaced by placing a tax on the binoculars and cameras that birdwatchers and hikers use. You can read what Kim thinks about this theory in her post.
A Great Essay by a Young Hunter
It is always interesting to see what young people have to say about hunting when they are given the opportunity. The Whitetail 365 blog has an essay by one young hunter. I think it perfectly captures what hunting is about.
A Father and Son Turkey Hunt
Here is another great story about a young hunter. A father was hunting with his son when the father got his first turkey. What I really like about this story is how the father helped his son come to terms with the death of the animal. Sounds like this young boy is another hunter in the making.
